Course Outline

Attendance

  • The Minimum attendance requirement shall be 75 percentage for appearing university examination.
  • Students are not allowed to enter in the class if they are 15 minutes late for the class and they will lose half-day attendance.
  • If the attendance is greater than 90 percentage full marks will be awarded.
  • Students who are absent from the class have to produce leave letter with the consent of their parents/guardians.
  • Absent from the field work should be compensated with other days.

Examinations

  • All the semester examinations would be external.
  • There will be one internal test and one model examination during the course of the semester.
  • The internal examination criteria will be as follows.

Assignments

  • The students will be given one assignment for each subject.
  • The students are required to submit the assignments within the dates specified.
  • Late submission would not be entertainment.
  • A Viva Voce will be conducted as part of fieldwork in each semester.
  • Fieldwork report should be submitted every Monday before 9.30.a.m.

Field Work

Every Friday and Saturday students will go for concurrent fieldwork or field visit for the first semester students. Second, Third and Fourth semester students will have field work in the respective agency every Friday and Saturday.

Agency Visits
In the first semester and the second semester, Organizational/Agency visits are provided to the students for exposing students to various settings and modes of S.W. practice. They are intended to give the students an idea of the immense opportunities in the profession, to recognize the component of professionalism, the issues and the problems implicated. In the next second semester, visits are conducted in order to give sufficient practical knowledge in counseling, and the third and fourth semesters, visits are emphasized in the specialization areas.

Concurrent Field Work
In the first semester, students are taken to different agencies to get a deeper knowledge of different field, there after they are placed to different community setting, which enable the students to practice different theories they learn and learn to work with them, using participatory method. They get the opportunity to practice community organization theories.

Rural Camp
In the first semester, the students are given opportunity to have a rural community experience where they come in touch with the realities of rural life and learn to identify the needs of the people and work for a project in collaboration with the rural people. It will be the part of first semester fieldwork.

Block Placement

The block placement is undergone during the fourth semester and after the fourth semester for 26 days as per the university norms.  This placement gives an outlook to work as a professional Social Worker in which they take up individual assignments and responsibility. Through this placement, the students develop their potential and they try to search for possible avenues before the end of the course or as soon as the course is completed.

Study Tour

To acquaint with the agencies and organisations across the country, a study tour for a maximum of 10 days in the third semester is a mandatory requirement of the course. The tour includes visits to various industries, educational institutions, NGOs and national and international social welfare agencies.
